Affirmations for imposter syndrome
You have been found out exactly zero times so far.
Imposter feelings are not a mystery about your ability. They are a pattern in how you assign credit. Good marks get attributed to luck, generous marking, or an easy paper; bad ones go straight to a fixed fact about you. Run that accounting for two years and you can accumulate a genuinely strong record while remaining certain you are a fraud, because no piece of evidence is ever allowed to count in your favor.
Selective courses make this worse by design. You were probably near the top of your school and are now sitting in a room where everyone was. The distribution moved; your ability did not. Being mid-table among people selected for being good at this is a mathematical necessity for most of the cohort, and it feels almost identical to being exposed.
What tends to loosen it is not a confidence exercise but ordinary evidence-gathering. The people you admire on the course also look things up constantly. Nobody in that seminar thought about your answer for longer than a minute. Admissions did not make an exception they now quietly regret — that is not how any admissions process works.
None of the sentences here ask you to feel qualified. Feeling like a fraud and doing the work are perfectly compatible states, and waiting for the first to resolve before attempting the second is how people talk themselves out of asking a question for three years.

Questions
Is imposter syndrome normal at university?
Extremely, and it clusters in exactly the places you would expect — first year, competitive courses, and among students who are the first in their family to attend. It is a pattern of attributing your own results away from yourself, not a clinical condition, and it says almost nothing about how you are doing.
Do affirmations actually help with exam stress?
Short, concrete statements you have rehearsed beforehand are easier to reach for once you are already stressed — the same logic behind the coping statements used in CBT. They are not a treatment and they do not replace one. If stress is shaping most of your term, your university almost certainly has a counseling service, and it is worth using.
How often should I read them?
Once, properly, beats twenty times while scrolling. Most people find two or three that land and come back to those through an exam period. Ballast sends one a day and then stops.
