Affirmations for comparing yourself to other parents
Your worst hour against their best photo was never a fair trade.
The comparison is rarely with a real person. It is with eleven seconds of somebody's week, filmed on the one morning it went well, in a room they tidied first. You are setting that against your entire Tuesday, including the part at 4am.
The other babies are doing their own thing too. Milestone charts are averages, and an average describes a population rather than instructing your child. A baby sleeping through at four months says nothing about that household's skill and nothing about yours. Advice from a parent whose baby slept is advice about a different baby.
Then there is the confidence problem. Parents who sound certain about method are usually reporting temperament, not results. Volume is not evidence. The parent at the park has help you cannot see, or does not, and is holding it together for the length of the visit.
The most useful line in this set is also the least flattering: you would never judge another parent for the thing you are judging yourself for right now. If you would not say it to them, it is not a finding. It is tiredness talking with borrowed authority.

Questions
How do I stop comparing my baby to other babies?
Cut the input first, because willpower rarely beats a feed engineered to hold you. Then look at what you are actually comparing: your own baby, on a real day, against an average or a highlight. Two babies the same age can be nothing alike, and neither one is behind.
Why do these sound different from most parenting affirmations?
Most of them ask you to feel grateful. Ours do not. They are written to be said out loud by a tired adult who is not enjoying this today, which rules out most of what gets posted under this heading. They name the hard part first, then hand you something to stand on.
How often should I read them?
Once, properly, beats twenty times while scrolling one-handed. Most people find two or three that land and come back to those. Ballast sends one a day and then leaves you alone.
