Affirmations for your body after a baby
This body is in constant use and expected to look rested. Only one of those is possible.
However you arrived at this, the physical job is the same and it is enormous. Lifting, carrying, leaning over a crib, standing and rocking for an hour at a stretch, all of it on broken sleep. Your back hurts for a reason. Your arms shake for a reason. Twelve-hour days of physical work will do that to anyone.
For some people there is recovery layered on top of that: a body that went through something major and is being asked to look untouched a few weeks later. Recovery takes as long as it takes, and nobody else's timeline applies to it. Bounce-back is a marketing invention, aimed with some precision at the moment you have the least time to argue with it.
The mirror is a poor judge at four in the afternoon on four hours of sleep, in a house where nothing has been quiet since morning. Clothes fitting differently is information about clothes. Not showering until late is the schedule you are on, not evidence of neglect.
One practical line matters more than the rest here. Pain that is new, sharp, or getting worse is worth a call to your doctor, and so is anything about your recovery that worries you. That is not overreacting and it is not taking up somebody's time.

Questions
How long does it take to feel physically like yourself again?
Longer than the internet suggests, and it varies enormously between people. Sleep debt, constant lifting and no time to eat properly all slow it down, and none of that is under your control right now. Slower than you expected is not the same as not coming back.
Why do these sound different from most parenting affirmations?
Most of them ask you to feel grateful. Ours do not. They are written to be said out loud by a tired adult who is not enjoying this today, which rules out most of what gets posted under this heading. They name the hard part first, then hand you something to stand on.
How often should I read them?
Once, properly, beats twenty times while scrolling one-handed. Most people find two or three that land and come back to those. Ballast sends one a day and then leaves you alone.
